Here's the description of the various teams for the 2007 season.
The 6 and under swim team is an introductory swim team for children aged 6 and younger (this age requirement is NOT a strict one, 7 or 8 year olds who prefer to be on this team are more than welcome). This group meets Monday-Thursday from 10:00 - 10:30am. There are typically 1-2 "fun" swim meets for this group to participate in throughout the summer.
Heights swim team is for swimmers of all ages and almost all swimming abilities. The team is divided up according to age groups (7&8, 9&10, 11&12, 13&14 and 15 and up). Our swimmers practice Mondays-Fridays, and compete in weekly swim meets on Wednesday nights. The goal of Heights swim team is to provide a fun atmosphere where children can learn, and feel confident about themselves as swimmers. All kids are encouraged to be on the team. There are no try-outs, and there is no obligation to compete in the swim meets.
Bronze Medallion and Cross are pre-requisite courses needed in order to take the National Lifeguard course to be able to work as a lifeguard. This course is offered on Mondays at 5:00, and will run throughout the entire summer. There is a practical exam that the kids take at the end of the course, of which they must pass in order to obtain their certificate. To be eligible for Bronze Med you must be 13 years old by mid-September. To be eligible for Bronze Cross, you must have your Bronze Medallion certificate.
The Leaders program is offered to kids aged 12 and up. This group has weekly meetings, helps out the lifeguards with various things, and organizes fundraising events so that they can go on group trips (La Ronde, the movies etc…). Becoming a Leader is great way to get to know the other kids at the pool. We highly recommend becoming a Leader to those who are interested in becoming a lifeguard one day.
Heights synchro has earned the reputation as being the best in ALPS for the past 2 years. In the past we have had 4-5 teams competing in the synchro team events, along with soloists and duets. Teams are assigned based on age and ability (blue level required). Try-outs are required, and will be completed during the week of June 26th. Despite the fact that there are try-outs for this sport, every girl who wants to be a part of the team, and who is committed to the sport, WILL make a team. The girls practice Monday-Friday from 12:00pm-12:45pm. Morning and evening practices will become a norm as competition dates approach.
We encourage all kids of all ages as well as almost all levels of swimming to come and participate on Heights diving team. No experience is required for this sport (green level required). The team meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and competes in weekly diving meets every Sunday morning. As with swim team, we do not require our divers to participate in the meet, should they prefer not to.
Waterpolo is a fun sport for girls and boys aged 10 and up (bronze level required). The team practices Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:45-1:30pm. Teams are divided up according to age and gender (girls 14 and under, boys and under, girls 16 and under, boys 16 and under) There is also a 12 and under tournament for our younger players.
This is a "get/stay in shape" low-impact exercise program in the water for adults. Aqua Fitness is on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:45 until 1:30.
This year we have decided to incorporate a different component to the Masters program. For beginners, as well as those who would like a work-out (but maybe not as strenuous as a "masters" workout), we have included a stroke improvement section. Those wanting to improve their swimming skills as well as their endurance are encouraged to come. For those who enjoy our regular masters program, it will still be there! (New time: Monday and Thursday from 7:00pm-8:00pm). For adults.
